GILBERT ADLER (Producer) is a multiple Cable ACE Award-winner, having served as writer, director and producer on a long list of television and motion picture projects. Adler's 10-year relationship with Robert Zemeckis and Joel Silver has produced three films prior to 13 Ghosts: House on Haunted Hill and Demon Knight, both of which Adler produced, and Bordello of Blood, which he produced, directed and co-wrote.
Adler's recent television credits include co-executive producing and directing the Warner Bros. series The Strip. His other series work includes directing, producing and writing episodes of Fantasy Island, Charmed and episodes of Perversions of Science and Tales from the Crypt. Additionally, he served as producer of the cable film Double Tap, co-executive producer and co-writer of the telefilm Weird World and producer of the series Freddie's Nightmares. Adler also recently served as co-executive producer and director of HBO's Vietnam War Stories.
JOEL SILVER (Producer) is one of the most successful producers in the motion picture industry today. His films have earned a combined gross of over $3.7 billion worldwide, averaging over $100 million per picture, and his last seven pictures have opened at number one at the box office. His 1999 production, The Matrix, grossed over 20 $456 million worldwide, earning more than any other Warner Bros. Pictures release in the history of the studio. Universally acclaimed for its groundbreaking storytelling and visuals, The Matrix also won four Academy Awards, including the award for Best Visual Effects.
Most recently, Silver produced the hit films Swordfish, starring John Travolta, Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry, Exit Wounds, starring Steven Seagal and DMX, and Romeo Must Die, featuring Jet Li and Aaliyah.
Silver began his career at Lawrence Gordon Productions, where he ultimately ascended to president of motion pictures for the company. He associate produced The Warriors and, with Gordon, produced 48 HRS., Streets of Fire and Brewster's Millions.
Silver's first independent production under his Silver Pictures banner was Commando, followed by Jumpin' Jack Flash and Predator. Silver then produced Lethal Weapon, Lethal Weapon 2, Lethal Weapon 3 and Lethal Weapon 4, as well as Die Hard, Die Hard 2: Die Harder, The Last Boy Scout, Demolition Man, Richie Rich and Conspiracy Theory. He executive produced, with Richard Donner, David Giler, Walter Hill and Robert Zemeckis, eight seasons of the award-winning HBO series Tales From the Crypt, as well as two Tales From the Crypt films.
Silver is currently supervising the release of The Matrix Revisited, a special edition DVD that includes extensive behind-the-scenes footage of the making of The Matrix, as well as an exclusive preview of Silver's next two installments of the franchise, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, currently in production in Australia. Silver has also overseen the successful launch of Dark Castle Entertainment, a production entity he formed with Robert Zemeckis in the spirit of the late William Castle, with the record-breaking release of House On Haunted Hill, which opened at number one on Halloween of 1999.
While a student at Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey in 1967, Silver and some of his friends invented a game called Ultimate Frisbee. The fast-moving team sport has since become a global phenomenon supported by tournaments in 42 countries. Ultimate Frisbee was played as a medal sport in the 2001 World Games, which were held last August in Akita, Japan.
ROBERT ZEMECKIS (Executive Producer) has secured his place in history as one of the preeminent filmmakers of our time. His films, which include Romancing the Stone, the Back to the Future trilogy, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Death Becomes Her, the critically acclaimed Forrest Gump (for which he received an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Director) and the science-fiction/drama Contact, have achieved worldwide grosses in excess of $2 billion.
His most recent success as a director is the smash hit Cast Away with Tom Hanks. He also directed the supernatural thriller What Lies Beneath, starring Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer. Zemeckis made his directorial debut in1978 with the screenplay he co wrote, I Wanna Hold Your Hand, followed by the 1980 cult classic Used Cars, starring Kurt Russell.
Zemeckis has directed many television projects including Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories, several episodes for HBO's Tales from the Crypt (which he executive produces with Joel Silver, Richard Donner, Walter Hill and David Giler.) Zemeckis also executive-produced and directed the Showtime documentary The Pursuit of Happiness.
STEVE BECK (Director) helms his first full-length feature film with 13 Ghosts. Previously Beck served as visual effects art director for the Oscar winning features Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Hunt For Red October and The Abyss.
Born and raised in southern California, Beck attended the Arts College of Design in Pasadena with the intention of becoming an illustrator.
1983 Beck joined Robert Abel & Associates, then the world leader in visual effects for commercial production. After winning several Clios there, he was offered the chance to re-establish Industrial Light & Magic's art department in 1988. Beck went on to become one of the world's most acclaimed commercial directors. Consistently ranked among the best in the commercial world each year, Beck's work has garnered more than 50 awards.
He makes his home in San Francisco.
NEAL MARSHALL STEVENS (Screenplay) has had considerable experience working in the horror genre. Stevens produced the Emmy-winning Roger Corman 's The Phantom Eye TV miniseries. He also served as associate producer on the film Night Flier, based on the story by Stephen King. Stevens recently made his feature-directing debut with the terror-filled Stitches.
13 Ghosts is RICHARD D'OVIDIO's (Screenplay) second teaming with producer Joel Silver and Warner Bros. Pictures; their first pairing was on the highly successful Exit Wounds. D'Ovidio currently has a number of other projects on the go, including Ace In the Hole, a con-man thriller in development with Outlaw Pictures and Intermedia for Pierce Brosnan, and Sleight of Hand, which is presently being packaged by Myriad Pictures. Richard is currently writing Westworld for Silver and Warner Bros. Pictures, which is a remake of the 1973 Michael Crichton movie of the same name. He has also sold a number of other screenplays to various studios.
A native of Boston, D'Ovidio graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in Economics and Sociology.
DAN CRACCHIOLO (Executive Producer) began his entertainment career as an agent trainee at ICM under Ed Lnnato. In 1991, he joined Joel Silver's Silver Pictures, where his first project was Lethal Weapon 3. Since then, he has co-produced the feature films Swordfish, Lethal Weapon 4, Assassins and Conspiracy Theory. He recently co-produced the highly successful The Matrix, produced Exit Wounds with Joel Silver and executive produced House On Haunted Hill and Romeo Must Die.
In addition, Cracchiolo associate produced Silver's and Richard Donner's HBO television series Tales from the Crypt for three seasons, as well as the two Crypt feature offshoots, Demon Knight and Bordello of Blood. He also executive produced the HBO telefilrns Made Men and Double Tap.
STEVE RICHARDS (Executive Producer) began his career in film production working for Ridley and Tony Scott's production company, Scott Free. In 1995, Richards joined Joel Silver's Silver Pictures. Since then, he served as associate producer on Double Tap and executive producer on the features Made Men, House on Haunted Hill, Proximity and Dungeons & Dragons.
He received his MBA from UCLA's Anderson School of Management.
TERRY CASTLE (Co-Producer), the daughter of the late William Castle, the film director and movie impresario, is the founder of William Castle Productions, a film production company dedicated to making horror movies in the spirit of her late father's work. Castle has worked with Joel Silver and Robert Zemeckis in the past, co-producing the remake of her father's 1958 original House on Haunted Hill.
Prior to William Castle Productions, Terry Castle gained status working in children’s programming. As an executive in charge of production at Nickelodeon, Castle was responsible for series including Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Wild and Crazy Kids, and Welcome Freshman, among others. Prior to her executive post, she garnered a senior producer and writer role, working for Nickelodeon's On-Air Promotions Group. In 1994, she formed Castle 2 Productions, a new media marketing and image-consulting firm.
RICHARD MIRISCH (Co-Producer) served as associate producer/second unit producer on Warner Bros. Pictures' acclaimed film The Matrix. Prior to that, he associate produced the Universal film Tales From the Crypt Presents: Bordello of Blood, and two series for HBO, Perversions of Science and the highly successful Tales From the Crypt. Most recently, Mirisch associate produced the UPN television series The Strip.
GALE TATTERSALL (Director of Photography) most recently worked with director Mike Newell on Pushing Tin and received an Emmy nomination for his outstanding cinematography on Ron Howard and Tom Hanks' acclaimed miniseries From the Earth to the Moon.
Additional feature credits for the British-born Tattersall include the smash hit independent film The Commitments, directed by Alan Parker. He also filmed John Badham's The Jack Bull, as well as Virtuosity, Hideaway and Wild Orchid. Other credits include The Addams Family, Robert Altman's Aria and the critically lauded British film Comrades, directed by Bill Douglas.
He began his career as a camera operator on The Emerald Forest, Sweet William and several films directed by Bruce Beresford, including Don's Party and The Getting of Wisdom.
Tattersall has also lensed numerous international commercials and music videos including those for artists Tina Turner, Peter Gabriel and David Byrne.
DEREK G. BRECHIN's (Editor) most recent work with producer Joel Silver was as editor on the fast-paced action movies Exit Wounds and Romeo Must Die. Prior to that, he served as editor on Deep Blue Sea, Breakdown, Roland Emmerich's sci-fi adventure StarGate and The Patriot, starring Steven Seagal and directed by the Academy Award-winning cinematographer of Dances With Wolves, Dean Semler.
Brechin's additional editing credits include assisting on the blockbuster films Die Hard, Total Recall and Basic Instinct, as well as serving as second editor on Executive Decision.
EDWARD A. WARSCHILKA (Editor) has worked on a number of John Carpenter films, from Vampires and Escape From L.A. to Village of the Damned and In The Mouth of Madness. Additional feature credits include Innocents, Child's Play 3, Daddy's Dyin'... Who's Got the Will? and The Running Man.
Warschilka's first film, as co-editor, was Carpenter's Big Trouble In Little China. He honed his craft as an assistant editor on such hit films as A Soldier's Story, Staying Alive, and he also worked on Tarzan, the Ape Man, The Long Riders, and The Main Event.
His television work includes the series Going To Extremes and a number of movies for television, including John Carpenter Presents Body Bags.
Accomplished film composer JOHN FRIZZELL (Composer) has most recently composed for Josie and the Pussycats and the TV biopic James Dean. His other work has included Lockdown, Beautiful, directed by Sally Fields, Teaching Mrs. Tingle, White River Kid, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Mike Judge's Office Space, Jane Austen's Mafia! , directed by Jim Abrahams, Alien 4: Resurrection with Sigourney Weaver and Winona Ryder, Dante 's Peak, Beavis and Butthead Do America, The Rich Man's Wife, The Empty Mirror, Red Ribbon Blues and Opposite Corners.
Making his feature film debut as Production Designer is SEAN HARGREAVES. The British born Hargreaves, who launched his career as an art director for numerous award-winning commercials and music videos, worked extensively with Industrial Light & Magic where he developed a professional relationship with director Steve Beck.
Hargreaves' impressive list of feature credits includes such hit films as Toy Story 2, The Fifth Element, The Lost World. Jurassic Park, Heat, Seven, Batman Forever and Crimson Tide.
Hargreaves attended the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, where he received his Bachelors degree in industrial design.
HOWARD BERGER (Prosthetics Key SPFX Make-Up) of the renowned KNB EFX Group has worked on such recent hit films as The Cell, The Green Mile, and What Lies Beneath.
The company, which was co-founded in 1988 by Berger, Robert Kurtzman and Greg Nicotero, has excelled in a wide variety of effects, prosthetics and character makeup in everything from the mega-hit Scream trilogy and Dark Castle's first William Castle remake, House On Haunted Hill, to Reservoir Dogs and From Dusk Till Dawn.
